“Addict.” A new short film and my thoughts about it.
Steel blue darkness weaves it’s way into a shattered wasteland as the sun sinks below the horizon. Flickering fluorescence illuminates a love that once was alive, but since has died and in the absence of daylight, is being torn apart at the seams.
I want to introduce you all to “Addict.” A short film that I will be shooting next month in Phoenix, Arizona.
Director Devin Berko’s (of Ber Co Productions) vision for the project exposes a graceful darkness in the relationship between an anxiety-ridden young couple. Over the course of a night, they desperately struggle to get their next fix, while they even more desperately exhaust each other in search for their own salvation.
I’m so excited to be a part of this project because I can see and feel the images of this film when I read the script. It will be visually dynamic, with an experimental edge that reflects the volatile chaos of the character’s minds. The images will be dark and beautiful, alternating rhythmically between slow, thoughtful moments and rapid, overwhelming surges of emotion.
My goal is to breathe a truthful and resonating life into this film. It is a story that needs to be told because it lives within all of us. The paradox of how at times we sink into the depths of ourselves, finding stability only from a perpetual state of entrapment. But only through enduring this we can discover that the sun, in its infinite cycle, will always rise again—and this time, perhaps brighter and more vivid than the last.
Any contribution to support our efforts is greatly appreciated. You can learn more about the project and how to help us on the “Addict” kickstarter page. (Secret hint: You can watch a video of my totally camera-shy self talking about the film. Score.)
Sincerely,
Allison Anderson
Here are two screenshots from a new film (my first time shooting on Super 16!) Thank you again to the beautiful cast and crew. I feel way too lucky to get to make films with so many hard-working, talented, and just feckin’ wonderful people.
Directed by Alexandra Leopold
Talent: Chip Hamlett and Katie Graves
The Larva Ink is playing Denver’s Red Rocks Amphitheater on July 12th. Since I want to but can’t, you should probably go. Here is a portrait that I took of them a while back. I think that it captures the beautifully visceral energy that they put into their music.
